Gourmet Malaysia

Gourmet Malaysia on Urbanspoon

Good morning everyone! Today, I will be writing about a place that Danny's father wished to visit for quite some time.  He was craving for some Malaysian Curry.

This is the view of the restaurant right when you enter...

The seating booth where we three sat.

Interesting looking desserts. I am guessing by observing the texture.... they are rice cakes of some sort?

Gourmet Malaysia had a section where they sold anything from sauces, pineapple jam in jars and frozen Asian foods.

LOL! Squid candy!

Singapore Laksa (Soup Noodle)

I would like to express that Laksa Curry is one of my all time favourite dishes. It's somewhere there in my Top 5 favourite foods.

It's this rich, coconut-creamy soup with a mild curry taste and sometimes it has a kick of spice. According to Wikipedia, "CNN Travel ranked Penang Assam Laksa 7th out of the 50 most delicious food in the world." I will give you a moment while you Wikipedia "Laksa". Just click on this link:

*Sigh* The way how the sunlight was striking the bowl made the deep fried tofu and shrimp glisten like jewels.

There were thin noodles in the Laksa. Dad and I agreed that this dish would have been more awesome with thick rice noodles! I LOVE Dad's taste and style with food. He knows what's good.

Coconut Milk with Chicken
I love any foods with Coconut Milk! This dish was specular on my palate. It felt like I was watching a circus and I have never attended a circus before.

When I tried my first piece, the coconut milk sauce had fused well with the chicken. You taste this creamy, coconutty, sweet, rich and savouriness in your mouth.

Bet you can't eat just one!

I can't remember what this particular dish was called in English... but Dad told me that in translation it's called, "Boxer's or Boxing Chicken". Sounds funny, eh?
You see how the drumsticks appeared that someone already gnawed on it? The chef got rid the fat so whatever is left is lean meat.

The chicken was good. Dad ordered a second dish of Boxer's Chicken. God, he can eat if he really wants to.

Deep fried tofu with some cilantro. I love Cilantro!

I had one small drumstick. It was good but I was fixated on the Laksa and the Coconut Milk Chicken.

Singapore Vegetarian Laksa

Yes! I got lots of mushrooms! I love mushrooms but Danny detests any edible fungus. Mushrooms can naturally thin out your blood.

Sambal Sauce with Beef

This dish was excellent! Dad said, "This reminds me of the old curry beef when I was young!" When I tasted it, it was a combination of mild curry, sweetness, saltiness and some garlic all fused into one.

We three agreed that the Pancake wasn't so good. It was difficult to eat and everything unravelled. Yes, it was a messy dish.

Crush peanuts with hoisin sauce with a vegetable filling
It was okay but I predict I won't be order this pancake again in the future.

Literally it was just fruits with ice.
Dad teased that I was just paying for the labour for someone to cut fruits for me.

Dragon Fruit

If you haven't tried anything Laksa then I'm sorry my friend, you've haven't lived. And you're missing out. I would give Gourmet Malaysia 4.5/5.0 star! All of the foods were "Good" to "Pretty Amazing"!I hope that I will return again this fall before it snows. The place was clean, staff were okay. It would be nice if they  more attentive.
