Casa Manila #2

Casa Manila Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

Hello Casa manila lovers!

I recently was invited for a complimentary meal for four at Casa manila. I had invited three of my friends to enjoy Kamayan, the Flipino hand to mouth feast. One of them never tried Flipino food so it was an adventure for her!

I can't help admire their decor and atmosphere. It brought a sense of calm, chilled back environment as if you temporarily went on a vacation.

Thank you Casa manila for the extra Chicken Chicharon Appetizers.

I ate the last one! No body fought for them this time. They are so delicious!

Beef Consomme with chopped beef and vegetables Nilagang Baka

We heard drums and voices. Our Kamayan landed on our banana leaf covered table. It's colorful and pleasant to look at.

This is what was ordered:

Chicken
Grilled Chicken Skewers

Beef
Peanut, Beef and Vegetable Stew (Kare Kare)

Pork
Crispy Pork Belly

Seafood
7-Up Garlic Prawns

Vegetables
Coconut Long Beans and Squash

They served some high quality long grain rice (Chinese Rice).

I really enjoyed their vegetables. I just wish I had more coconut sauce drizzled on to the rice.

Shrimp paste (very salty), vinegar and sweet liver sauce

A Pitcher of Tealicious
Pineapple juice, ice tea, ginger ale, fresh mint and lime
I did not taste any ginger ale but this was a nice sweet, cold beverage.

Ube Cake
The cake was stale but alright. I don't think the Ube cake was made in the restaurant. I was wondering where all of the Ube flavour was. It was embedded within the sponge cake and at the bottom of the cake. There was this sweet ube puree on the plate the anchor the cake. That was my favourite and I wish I had more of that puree.

My friends and I had a great Kamayan experience. Their foods are so flavourful and vivid. I will definitely return in the future to try out other things from their menu. Thank you Casa Manila for everything!

This meal was complimentary but opinion is mine.

St. Lawrence Market's Stonemill Bakehouse #1

Stonemill Bakehouse Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato
Hello everyone!
I have pretty tried all of the bakeries at St. Lawrence Market and this one was the best.

I've enjoyed most of their baked goods most of the time. Some food items just wasn't my cup of tea.

I love their Harvest Corn Muffins! I do love corn bread once in a while.

This is my favourite! It's the savory pastry feta spinach bistro sandwich. I just wish there was another layer of the feta spinach filling. There is never enough!

As a child, I grew up on this but from another bakery. So many nostalgic memories!

I overheard a lady talking about these. She claimed they were her favourite. So I took one home with me and Danny and I fought for it. It's crazy addictive. Fresh, crispy, butter layers and inside has this sweet almond paste. It reminded me of Marzipan but better! This had more almond essence in it. I personally don't like the icing sugar on top but absolutely go crazy for the sliced toasted almonds.

I was eating a butter croissant outside of the market and oh boy! Was I turning heads that day! Everyone on the street can hear this crispy, crunchy of several layers breaking as it makes contact with my teeth.

They are both good but I prefer the cheese croissant. I go here to buy baguettes here once in a while. I actually compared the quality of Stonemill's baguette with other St. Lawrence Bakery baguette. Hands down Stonemill had won!

They deserve a 4.0/5.0. I haven't tried every single baked good but they left me smiling after I brush off crumbs off my face. This is my current go to bakery. It sparks joy in my heart. They have great circulation of their baked goods so it's pretty fresh. Once you try their croissants, you will taste the quality of their ingredients. I see their staff replenishing their stock frequently. The staff are friendly and nice.

Fushimi #1

Fushimi Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

Hello Sushi Lovers!
I went on a double date with a cute couple to Fushimi which was walking distance from Wellesley Station.

We tried a lot of different dishes. Some were hits, some were misses. I will mostly show you what I thought were okay or good.

We were escorted to the back room.

We got the best seats in the house. I love these seats!

Shrimp Yakitori
It was okay. We had Chicken Yakitori as well. It was very similar. Good presentation.

Shrimp Tempura
They were cleaned alright.

Recommended by the Internet and Ren...Walnut Shrimp! When I tried it, there were no more walnut pieces. To me, it was just mayo, condensed milk with some spices that weren't detectable to the tongue. It just did not stand out in my mind.

Fried scallops with dots of ketchup.

Fried squid legs
I actually enjoyed these because they reminded me of the best Calamari during the Taste of Danforth.

Left: Lava Roll
Fake crab meat, mango, avocado, mango sauce and red fish roe
Middle: Crazy Salmon Roll
Spicy crunch salmon, avocado, salmon with cayenne pepper, house sauce and honey wasabi sauce
Right: Grilled Eel Roll

I tried only the Lava Roll and the Crazy Salmon Roll. It was extremely sweet. It wasn't my cup of tea.

Top Left: Salmon Ceviche
Seared cold salmon, organic green salad with tomato sauce
Top Right: Truffle White Tuna
Shichimi escolar tuna with truffle sauce
Bottom Left:Pepper Salmon
Black pepper salmon cucumber with sashimi sauce

Shrimp Asparagus
Cooked shrimp and asparagus with yuzu miso sauce

What we actually got was shrimp on top of a bed of sliced cucumbers. I did not have the shrimp because I was full but I ate some of their cucumbers. There definitely were nice Yuzu Lemon notes in the sauce. It was delicious!

Tuna Naruto
Tuna, fake crab meat, avocado wrapped in thin peeled cucumber with chef's special sauce
Danny remembers this was nice and very refreshing. This fish and the fake crab was actually went well and it was tasty.

A word of wisdom. We pretty much filled the ordering paper during our first cycle of order. Yup, every line and space was pretty much filled!
We got the salmon sashimi towards the middle/end of the meal. If you want to make your money worth it, order salmon sashimi first and don't order a lot of things to ensure you will get the sashimi in the beginning of the meal and you still have space in your stomach. The salmon sashimi was fresh and good but I definitely did not eat as much as I planned.

Fushimi Roll
Shrimp tempura, fish roe, BBQ Eel, mango, avocado, house sauce which is all wrapped with layered sesame soybean

Danny thought this very easy to eat, nice on the taste buds and well balanced roll. He thinks seniors would love this.

Albacore Tuna Sashimi,
tamago (egg) and cooked shrimp

Miso Soup
This was different Miso Soup. It was sweet and I strangely enjoyed it.

Ika Maru Yaki
Whole BBQ calamari with chef's special sauce

Strawberry, green tea and mango ice cream.

Fushimi deserves a 3.5/5.0. They had unique sushi rolls and sashimi that isn't normally part of the All You Can Eat Menu. Most of the food did come out somewhat fresh. The quality of the food is pretty average. It was noted they put a bit more effort on presentation which was nice. I personally thought their ice cream quality can be better. I was the only one who had an issue tasting a lot of ice crystal in their ice cream and perceived it was old.

Le Papillon (On Front)#2

Le Papillon on Front Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato
Bonjour!
Danny and I recently went to Le Papillon for a quick bite. I was craving for their French Onion Soup Poutine.

Their daily specials were enticing but we knew exactly what to order.

View of their back room.

Bread and butter first...

Poutine on Front
I love their brilliant french onion soup poutine by Chef Laven and Moe.  The caramelized onions, soup, gravy and fresh cheese curds is an addictive dish you won't forget about.

Open wide!

Danny ordered French Onion Soup with melted Gruyere Cheese. He disliked the cheese. I gladly took his cheesy layer and said "It tastes just like Swiss Cheese." The soup was flavourful, rich, thick and slightly creamy.

When I looked around there was a good mix of the older adults and young adults at the restaurant. I haven't tried all of the pountines in Toronto but this stands out quite a bit. I just wish they gave us more cheese curds. Le Papillion deserves a 3.5/5.0.

Uncle Tetsu's Japanese Cheesecake

Uncle Tetsu's Japanese Cheesecake Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

Hello to who hankering for something sweet.
So I have visited Uncle Tetsu's Japanese Cheesecake shop recently. This actually was my third time.

They still have a limit on the cheesecake. I heard that one cheesecake pops out of the oven every 15 minutes.

There were about 6-7 people in front of me and it took me  about 15-20  minutes in line to get my order.

It was so fresh and hot that when I arrived home, it was still warm. Who doesn't like their cake fresh?

Soft, moist, creamy, sweet, airy cheesecake. Some would describe it as "light" but to my palate it is very buttery.

Here Uncle Tetsu, have some! I joke!

This is the type of cake, either you love it or hate it. You see, there are hints of cream cheese. It's a cross between a sponge cake and the regular cheesecake. I enjoyed it. They deserve a 4.0/5.0. The line up can be daunting. I still enjoy the American cheesecake. I see myself coming by once a season to grab a box of the Original cheesecake. I did try the green tea version but I prefer the orginal cheesecake. I did observe that there were a lot of young Asians in the line up.
